THAT ESTONIAN BLING THING
2024
Freedom, play, quality time. A jointly created space. An expression of love. A journey to one’s self-variations. There are so many ways to define Bling, but one thing is certain – at the heart of Bling is music that makes you dance. Bling took off at a New Year’s party in 2012–2013 as a costume party based on house music. Within a few years, it grew into a Midsummer festival of high-level artistic execution (2016–2018). After a one-year break, the event continued on a smaller scale, but all the more focused on co-creation – as Bear Blings (since 2020).
Bling stands out among other Estonian music festivals for its emphasis on sensory spatial creation (decorations and art), the playful self-expression of the participants (costumes), and an active co-creation of the event. As such, Bling is an expression of nightlife as a transformative spatial and bodily experience, enabled by the intersection of music, design, and radical self-expression.
